The House of Max Mara, is an Italian fashion house. It is best known for elegant, wearable ready-to-wear clothing.Max Mara is the name of a company founded in 1951 by Dr. Achille Maramotti, a lawyer turned dressmaker.
Max Mara has spawned 35 labels, although Max Mara womenswear remains the core of the company. Other brands include Marella, Sportmax, Pennyblack and Marina Rinaldi; the latter is a plus-size label named after Maramotti's great-grandmother. The trendy, youth division is called Max & Co.
His first collection consisted of just two garments, a suit and an overcoat.
Max Mara is the epitome of Italian fashion, good quality and cut, in classic styles, while managing to interpret trends in a very wearable way.
Max Mara does not disclose the designers currently working with them, although fashion coordinator Laura Lusuardi admits to a fondness for graduates from the British fashion schools.
Giorgio Guidotti has been the creative director of Max Mara since 1983. Nowadays he is also co-managing director with his brother. Most of his time is spent arranging photographers and models for shoots, setting up fashion shows and getting out the in-house magazine MM.
The Maramotti family group also includes Sportsmax, Pianoforte and the house of Marina Rinaldi, which makes clothes for the larger size woman.
