Elizabeth Arden was a true pioneer in the way she approached life and business, not to mention the field of beauty. She has got a very smart visionary and an equally smart business woman who had the drive to make her dreams come true.
Elizabeth Arden was born in Canada in 1878. She lost her mother at a very early age of 6 and she grew up with her father, sisters and brother. As she grew up, she explores the nursing school and various other jobs in Toronto.
Right from the very starting she always felt a certain unrest and knew that there was something bigger that she must do with her life.
From early on, Florence was a visionary. As a nurse, she foresaw burn creams and skin salves not just as medicine, but with the potential to be beauty creams and lotions.
At one point, the neighbors were convinced that the terrible odors coming from the house was the smell of rotten eggs being cooked and that the family was too poor to buy fresh food!
In recognition of her contribution to the cosmetic industry, she was awarded the Légion d'Honneur by the French government in 1962.
She died in New York City in 1966 and was interred in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York under the name Elizabeth N. Graham. Her estate was worth $30 to $40 million (US) and she had over a hundred salons worldwide.
