Issey Miyake is a Japanese fashion designer who was born on 22 April 1938. He is known for his technology-driven clothing designs and exhibitions.After studying graphics arts in Tokyo’s Tama Art University, he decided to later study fashion design at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.
In the late 80s, he began to experiment with new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production.In 1970 he opened up his own Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo where he was able to experiment with various design techniques.
He did the costume for Ballett Frankfurt with pleats in a piece named 'the Loss of Small Detail " William Forsythe and also work on ballet " Garden in the setting ".
The Miyake design sensibility revolves around change and movement. Displayed as art, as they were in the Making, Once worn, though, they take on volume and mobility, as if they are living sculptures.
