Campbell was born in Streatham, London, England. Her mother, Valerie Campbell (née Morris), is a former ballet dancer of Jamaican descent. In accordance with her mother's wishes, Campbell has never met her unnamed father, who left then-18-year-old Valerie two months after the birth of their daughter.
Naomi Campbell is known to be the on of the top British supermodel.
Campbell has since starred in pop videos for Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and George Michael. In 1995, she published a novel, Swan, and released an album, Babywoman, although neither to high acclaim. No stranger to controversy, Campbell appeared in an anti-fur poster campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) in 1997.
Since 1997, Campbell has been involved in charity work mainly focused on the children and people of Sub-Saharan Africa.
In her time, Naomi has inspired many compliments among them to be named on 1998's list of Cool Britannia's most influential denizen's ahead of Sir David Spedding, head of MI6, and William Hague, then leader of the Opposition, as well as Kate Moss.
Campbell has several adopted father figures, including Quincy Jones and Chris Blackwell, and an adopted grandfather, Nelson Mandela.On February 26, 2008, Campbell was hospitalized in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she underwent abdominal surgery.Campbell was released from the hospital three days later.
